Onfido, a start-up company from the Oxford University Innovation Software Incubator has secured a further $4.5m though Series A funding to help them expand internationally.

Onfido (Onfido.com) provides an automated background checking service which can be used by employers to carry out identity checks, criminal records checks and a range of other checks on potential new employees. The company was incorporated from the Isis Software Incubator in 2012.

Unlike more traditional companies, Onfido does not carry out the checks manually, meaning the whole process is made faster and more efficient. The Onfido technology platform automates the collection of data, speeding up the checks and ultimately allowing companies to hire faster.

The demand for more and more background checks is not only fuelled by an accession of foreign workers, but also the growing trend for companies to hire contractors on a regular basis and for multiple services.

Onfido currently carries out searches in 28 European countries and has now successfully raised $4.5 million in Series A funding in order to launch into the USA market. Series A was led by Wellington Partners, with participation from the following:

Brent Hoberman – Lastminute.com co-founder

Nicolas Brusson – Blablacar co-founder

Greg Marsh – Onefinestay co-founder

Spencer Hyman – Artfinder co-founder

Dan Cobley – Former Google UK Managing Director

Onfido was nurtured by the Isis Software Incubator, initially through an eight-week intensive summer incubator programme.
