Small Molecule and Protein Mass Spectrometry

The Mass Spectrometry Research Facility provides access to a broad range of mass spectrometry systems and expertise in organic, inorganic and biological mass spectrometry.

The Small Molecule and Protein Mass Spectrometry facility exists to support groups across all areas of chemistry providing access to a broad range of basic and advanced mass spectrometry systems and techniques.

A range of services are available to external organisations through commercial arrangements including:

  • Accurate mass service
  • High resolution sample analysis
  • Bulk and compound specific isotope ratio mass spectrometry
  • LC/MS and GC/MS analysis
  • ProteomicsMetabolomics

These services cover a range of materials:

  • Small Molecules
  • Biomolecules:
  • Proteins
  • Peptides
  • Oligonucleotides (denatured)
  • Metabolites

Academic-related staff at the facility are actively engaged in research utilising the tools of mass spectrometry and separation science. They have significant expertise in organic, inorganic and biological mass spectrometry and are available to discuss the experimental options appropriate for each client project.

Examples of equipment used for analysis services includes:

  • Thermo Orbitrap systems
  • Waters LCT (LC-MS/MS)
  • Agilent GC/MS (with headpace and SPME)
  • Waters SYNAPT HDMS with Advion Nanomate (UPLC-MS/MS)
  • Bruker µTOF (direct infusion)
