Werther grew up in Italy, and obtained an MChem degree (1st, Hons) in ‘Chemistry with Biochemistry’ from Heriot-Watt University (UK). He also has a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences from the University of Birmingham (UK), which investigated the molecular regulation of angiogenesis, the process of blood vessel growth.
