The Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) of the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, Oxford University and University College London, are collaborating to showcase up to 80 world-leading researchers and innovative technologies in sustainability and future health with a new in-person event, IP4U University Tech Fair.

IP4U will highlight the universities’ researchers and inventions to delegates drawn from across industry. This year, the event will promote technologies in sustainability and future health. The IP4U event aims at fostering greater engagement with industry and the development of long-term relationships with companies. The universities hope this will lead to greater collaboration and to more opportunities for licensing of their technologies.

Brendan Ludden, Head of Licensing and Ventures (Physical Sciences) at Oxford University Innovation said:

“If Universities market their technologies together, we can create a ‘critical mass’ of new ideas in any particular sector making it easier for industry to discover what is relevant to them and engage with TTOs. That’s the basic idea.”

“The plan is for IP4U to become a regular event open to all UK TTOs. For the first one, we are proving the approach with the four universities.”

IP4U will offer a unique opportunity to network, learn and discuss with the TTOs and inventors. The mornings will include open Q&A sessions with the CEOs and COOs of the four Tech Transfer Offices. Followed by networking and a session highlighting how the TTOs work and how best to engage with them. Then the delegates will be able to browse the technology displays and meet the inventors for more detailed discussions.

The inaugural IP4U event will take place over two days (19-20th September) at Imperial College London, on the South Kensington campus.
