Oxford statisticians advising on infectious disease modelling
Our statistics consultants have worked on a range of disease modelling projects for organisations such as the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control and Protection, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and other leading international universities and public health organisations.
Capabilities include developing and applying statistical and biomathematical methods to analyse the epidemiology (specifically transmission and control) of infectious diseases including COVID-19, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Ebola virus disease, Influenza A virus subtype H1N1, and other zoonoses.
Work on COVID-19 has informed government policy in the UK, the US and elsewhere.
In addition to work on human diseases, projects on animal diseases have been undertaken such as modelling of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, foot-and-mouth disease, and bovine tuberculosis (TB). This has informed the interventions, such as the evaluation of badger culling to control cattle TB in the United Kingdom.
