Andy studied Engineering Science at Oxford University and was awarded a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. His PhD, sponsored by a CASE studentship in collaboration with Lucas CAV, studied the application of artificial intelligence techniques to engineering design. After working as a manufacturing systems engineer and design engineer in the automotive sector, Andy joined an Oxfordshire-based IT company as a technical consultant specialising in computer-aided design and systems management. In 2005 Andy joined a medical devices start-up (now Adlens Ltd) co-founded by an Oxford academic as the first member of the technical team. At Adlens, Andy’s role involved managing/co-ordinating projects, building the technical team and managing the IP portfolio.
Andy joined Oxford University Innovation in August 2011 and focuses on physical sciences and engineering. In addition to completing license deals with a wide range of companies, Andy has taken the lead in forming a number of spin-outs with founder academics in departments including Computer Science, Engineering Science and Zoology. In addition, Andy has supported the formation of several software companies through the Startup Incubator.
