From idea to innovation

All our innovations start with an idea. A new idea with the potential to create change – whether it’s social, environmental or economic.

Your ideas, knowledge and research fuel our work at Oxford University Innovation (OUI). Using our Theory of Change methodology, we can help you create impact by bridging the gap between these inputs and their application across sectors.

Whether you’re still shaping your concept, or already talking to colleagues, get in touch and we’ll guide you through the next steps.

Does your idea stack up?

You don’t need to have all the answers to get started. But if you can answer ‘yes’ to some of the statements below, we’d love to talk to you about its potential.

  • I can explain the core idea in a few sentences
  • I know what problem or challenge it addresses
  • I understand who might benefit from it (users, patients, companies, etc)
  • I’ve done a basic search to see if similar solutions exist
  • I know what makes my idea different
  • I’m open to feedback or collaboration
  • I’ve considered whether it could have commercial, social or public value

Not ready yet?

If you’re still early on in the process, there are some things you can do to develop your idea further:
