Ciara joined OUI in July 2022 as an Assistant Licensing & Ventures Manager in the Life Sciences team and was promoted to Licensing & Ventures Manager in October 2023. Ciara manages a portfolio of projects spanning the medical sciences field, ranging from therapeutics to digital health.
She has an interdisciplinary academic background with a First-Class Honours Degree in Biomedical Science from Cardiff Metropolitan University and an MSc in Systems & Synthetic Biology from the University of Edinburgh. In 2022, Ciara completed a PhD in Precision Medicine at the University of Edinburgh where she studied the genetics of human food preferences using bioinformatics and in vivo models.
During her PhD, Ciara worked part-time for two years as an Intellectual Property Management & Technology Transfer PhD intern within the Technology Transfer team at Edinburgh Innovations. During this internship, she worked on a range of cases including biomarkers, diagnostics and medical devices, at various stages of the IP process.
Ciara was awarded a prestigious LifeArc AUTM Technology Transfer Fellowship for 2023-2024 which includes formal Technology Transfer training with networking, mentoring and practical experience.
