Professor Thompson has extensive clinical and research experience in the field of cardiac care and rehabilitation. He has published widely, including over 400 papers and a dozen books. He has been awarded significant research grants and has served on numerous expert committees of prestigious bodies, including the Department of Health, the Medical Research Council, the British Heart Foundation and the European Society of Cardiology. He has served as an editor of five journals and currently serves on the editorial boards of numerous nursing and medical journals.
Professor Thompson has received a number of honours in recognition of his contributions to the art and science of nursing and cardiology.
