How are you measuring the healthcare and societal impacts of your patient’s health conditions?

4th April 2025
The PECUNIA Resource Use Measurement instrument Version 2 is now available to licence through Oxford University Innovation’s Clinical Outcomes team
We are delighted to introduce PECUNIA RUM Version 2, the latest evolution of the internationally standardised, harmonised, and validated Resource Use Measurement (RUM) instrument. This enhanced version builds on the strengths of its predecessor, offering improved usability and expanded functionality to better support economic evaluations across multiple sectors. Measuring resource use in all relevant sectors for costing from a societal perspective in the adult population: health and social care, education, (criminal) justice, productivity losses, and informal care.
What’s New in PECUNIA RUM Version 2?
Version 2 has been refined to reduce complexity and ensure a more streamlined experience for researchers and practitioners. Key updates include:
- A new work-related section for more comprehensive employment and productivity assessment.
- A PROXY version to allow for alternative completion by caregivers or representatives.
- Flexible recall period options, giving users the ability to select either a fixed or adaptable timeframe based on research needs.
It remains consistent with the harmonised PECUNIA Costing Concept (PECUNIA Care Atom, PECUNIA Service Lists, PECUNIA Coding System) and therefore with other PECUNIA Costing Tools (PECUNIA Reference Unit Cost (RUC) Templates, PECUNIA RUC Compendium) to achieve cross-country and cross-sectoral comparability by referring to activity-based rather than linguistic equivalence of services.
Validated and Ready for Use
PECUNIA RUM Version 2 has undergone rigorous development and validation, including a scoping review, expert feedback, professional language editing, and pilot testing with former mental health care users and carers. The instrument remains available for pen-and-paper administration, with guidance available for those seeking to migrate it to digital formats.
