The Opportunity

The successful candidate will work within our friendly, fun, fast-moving and successful Life Sciences Group, focusing on commercialising a broad spectrum of technologies in the areas of drug discovery/development, biomarkers, diagnostics, medical devices, digital health innovation, biotechnology, environment (and more) developed from Life, Biomedical and Medical Sciences research at the University of Oxford.

The key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Identifying and developing strategic business relationships and market opportunities which add value to OUI and its activities, including targeting, prospecting and presenting compelling business propositions.
  • Building a good understanding of commercial opportunities in the value chain.
  • Preparing and presenting impactful and persuasive presentations that effectively demonstrate the OUI value proposition.
  • Conducting research to identify key markets and contacts to meet OUI and customer needs and gain feedback on future direction.
  •  Meeting existing and potential licensees, companies in the biotech and pharma sector and building positive relationships.
  • Work constructively and collaboratively with OUI colleagues, to develop sound business models, share proposals, recommendations, and analysis.
  • Liaising with colleagues to develop revenue, marketing, and negotiation strategies.

The Successful Candidate will need to have excellent commercial, communication and organisational skills, be a pragmatic and diplomatic negotiator with a proven track record and experience working with diverse people and stakeholders. A 2:1 degree in business, life science, or equivalent, is required and a demonstrated passion for commercialising technology through building successful partnerships that lead to increased revenue, and 5 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical, life science or medical, biotech, digital innovation business sectors is desirable but not necessary if you have a proven track record.

You will also need to demonstrate you have the skills to work well with knowledgeable and motivated people to achieve goals as well as strong verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to integrity and sound commercial judgement. You should be able to work autonomously and manage diverse work streams effectively.

Experience in any of the following industries or sectors is relevant and helpful:

  • Therapeutic development, pharmaceutical or data-driven drug discovery and vaccine development.
  •  Biomarkers, diagnostics, medical devices, digital health and personalised diagnostics and medicine, industrial biotechnology relating to feeding, fuelling, or protecting the world to meet climate change goals.

Salary for these roles is commensurate with experience and will be in the range of £51,000 – £58,000
