The University of Oxford’s position as the UK’s leading source of academic spinouts has been confirmed for the sixth consecutive year, while the University was also recognised as Europe’s leading hub for spinout value creation.
These achievements, reported in the 2026 edition of Spotlight on Spinouts, published by the Royal Academy of Engineering and powered by data from Dealroom.co, are testament to the work of Oxford University Innovation (OUI) as the University's innovation partner.
The report reflects how OUI is helping to turn Oxford’s world-leading knowledge and research into companies that create jobs, attract investment and address global challenges. It also highlights two OUI-supported University spinouts – OrganOx and Oxford Ionics – among Europe's six billion-dollar university spinout exits in 2025, demonstrating the growing global reach of Oxford-born innovation.
From life sciences and medical technologies to quantum computing, AI and climate innovation, Oxford spinouts are turning breakthrough ideas into impact at scale, supported by Oxford's expansive innovation ecosystem. Built over nearly 40 years, it brings together researchers, Founders, investors, industry partners and support organisations to help Oxford's knowledge and research create impact beyond the University.
Many of Oxford’s strongest spinout sectors align with areas identified in the UK’s Industrial Strategy, including life sciences, digital and AI, advanced manufacturing, clean energy and quantum technologies. As part of the Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor and the UK’s Golden Triangle, Oxford is well placed to support the UK’s ambitions for innovation-led growth and long-term economic growth.
