9th December 2016
Oxford Sciences Innovation's latest fundraising rounds off year which saw Oxford University Innovation launch 22 new spinout companies.
Oxford Sciences Innovation (OSI), which provides capital and scaling expertise to spinout companies from the Maths, Physical, & Life Sciences and Medical Sciences divisions, has secured £230m in new financing for ventures emerging from the Oxford University ecosystem, closing out a record year for innovation activity at the university.
In the past financial year, Oxford University Innovation’s (OUI) work has led to the creation of 22 spinouts and signed 772 deals, including:
- OxStem, a regenerative medicine spinout which secured a record £16.9m in seed financing.
- Bodle, which is bringing low-energy, high-resolution displays to market.
- EnzBond, OUI’s latest spinout, which is seeking to revolutionise the use of enzymes in drug development with its in-silico technology.
Looking forward, OUI’s pipeline remains robust, with companies based on world-class intellectual property in the fields of antibiotics, sleep management, and virtual reality to announced in the coming months.
Linda Naylor, Managing Director at Oxford University Innovation, said:
“As with any research commercialisation company, the work we do here at OUI in translating research ideas into technologies with real world impact is often constrained by access to capital. By pulling together a global network of investors, OSI is acting a beacon to the world’s investment community. The door for cutting edge technology here at Oxford is open. The innovation output of the university has never been stronger, and the supporting role OSI plays in backing our spinouts is encouraging new entrants to our pipeline of pioneering, first-class technologies.”
