GitHub acquires Oxford data firm Semmle
20th September 2019
Software development platform GitHub, part of Microsoft, has acquired Oxford University spinout Semmle.
Started in 2006, Semmle has spent the past 13 years building up its code analysis tool, which is now used by Google, Uber, Microsoft and many other to improve data security. GitHub plans to use the tool, which is used to discover potential vulnerabilities in code, as part of its overall workflow.
To date, Semmle has raised $31m in external fundraising. Financial terms of the deal were not announced.
