Improved flash sintering processes for uniformity

Image from Licence Details: Improved flash sintering processes for uniformity

Applications: Flash sintering, ceramics

A bundle of manufacturing processes that can be implemented together to create significant improvements in flash sintering uniformity without having to adjust the external environment.

Features Benefits
  • Multiple electrical connections.
  • The temperature gradient in the sample can be configured to create uniform sintering by changing the number or position of the electrical connections. Increased uniformity is highly desirable for manufacturing reliable and reproducible elements.
  • Electrical conductivity control.
  • Smart materials enable the electrical conductivity of each region of a sample to be controlled according to whether it has undergone sintering, ensuring that current is directed to non-sintered areas such that by the end of the process all regions of a sample are uniformly sintered.
  • Improved modelling.
  • This creates cost and time savings during the design process – no longer is it necessary to manufacture and test each possible construction as the predictive modelling can now give a far improved idea of the result of any new proposed design.
  • Low energy consumption.
  • The speed and energy requirement of the process means that overall, we can reduce energy input and therefore manufacturing costs.
