Oxford University Innovation, the technology commercialisation company of the University of Oxford, is focussing resources in Spain with the appointment of a General Manager, and opening of an office in the prestigious Parque Científico de Madrid.

In April Isis opened its office in a ceremony attended by Carmen Vela, Secretary of State for Innovation, the British Ambassador to Spain and other distinguished guests. Extensive media coverage in TV, radio and print demonstrated the interest in Spain at this important milestone.

In the UK, Oxford University Innovation has more than 20 years experience of commercialising IP and bringing together researchers, investors and business professionals to create new ventures based on innovative science.

Manuel Fuertes, recently appointed as General Manager of Oxford University Innovation in Spain, said, “There is enormous untapped potential in the Spanish knowledge economy; Isis’ knowledge and experience can make a significant contribution to transformation of the sector.”

Manuel has at his disposal a dedicated team of Isis Enterprise consultants in Spain, the UK and elsewhere. Many of these consultants have already assisted Spanish institutions – delivering training courses for the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and providing scientific due diligence to the Fundación Barrié in Galicia. The establishment of Isis’ office is the natural next step building on these successful partnerships.

Following the enthusiastic reception to the Oxford University Innovation Society meeting held in Madrid last October, Isis will again host an OIS meeting and dinner in Madrid in November this year, to reinforce the networks and relationships that are crucial to business creation.
