Tom Hockaday Receives Innovation Award

Tom Hockaday, Managing Director of Oxford University Innovation has been announced as joint winner of the Bridge Award at the inaugural Academic Enterprise Awards 2008.

The award Tom Hockaday won recognises individuals who have done the most to promote policies for entrepreneurship in universities or public research institutions, and was shared with Eleanor Taylor from Scottish Enterprise and Hans Wigzell from Sweden’s Karolinska Institute.

The prizes were awarded by the Science|Business Innovation Board at a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, including leaders from industry, academia and policy. Other awards were given to companies tackling major issues of health, the environment and security.

The ACES program was launched in June 2008 at INSEAD, the international business school in Fontainebleau, France, and is supported by a further 24 European academic institutions. The program is sponsored by Microsoft, Procter & Gamble, Vinnova, Amgen, Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical R&D, CEFIC, IVA–Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering, the Wellcome Trust and WilmerHale. Media partners were MIT Technology Review, the Wall Street Journal Europe and ScanBalt.
