The Chinese Vice-Premier for economic policy, Wang Qishan visited Oxford on Friday 9th September, and heard from a senior executive of Oxford University Innovation about Oxford’s successful Technology Transfer model.

Isis has a particular focus on the Chinese market – having opened its first overseas office in Hong Kong in 2009 – and Tom Hockaday, Managing Director of Isis, described several exciting collaborative ventures in the region.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Hamilton accompanied Mr Wang; Tom Hockaday introduced Isis’ activities in China.
A number of spin-out companies from Oxford, the first being Oxford Instruments in 1959, are active in China. Chinese academics, working in Oxford, and investors have been involved in a number of more recent technology companies established by Isis including Oxford Catalysts, Zyoxel and Oxford Multi Spectral.

By managing seed capital, raising investment, and identifying experienced management, Isis boasts an impressive success rate when bringing new technologies to market, and is keen to expand by applying its experience and knowledge in China through high technology company formation, technology licensing, and consultancy engagements.
