Oxford Leads Patent League Table

An analysis of UK patenting has found that the University of Oxford is ranked first amongst UK institutions in terms of the number of mature patents it has filed over recent years.

The analysis was undertaken by consultancies PatAnalyse and TechnologiCa. The companies used a methodology which counted patents which had been filed in a number of territories globally, having entered national phase.

Oxford University Innovation, the University’s technology transfer company, manages Oxford’s patent portfolio.

The majority of Oxford’s patent filings are in the pharmaceutical area, reflecting the University’s strong research base in the life sciences.
