Oxford University Innovation, which has grown from 45 staff at the beginning of the 2007-2008 financial year to 57 today, is currently recruiting for four staff to develop business and commercialise Oxford technologies.

The technology transfer group is aiming to expand its 24-strong team with three additional Project Managers. Working with world-leading academics, the roles includes filing patents, marketing technologies, completing licence deals, and setting up new spin-out companies.

“Isis manages an exceptional intellectual property portfolio and of late we’ve seen a large increase in new invention disclosures, particularly in software, IT, and engineering but also across the traditionally strong areas such as chemistry and biomedical engineering,” said Linda Naylor, the Head of Technology Transfer.

“One of the project managers will focus on Isis jobs in IT and software, including life-science software, and another will have a remit to work with engineers, materials scientists and other physical sciences. The third person is likely to have experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical sectors or perhaps a contract research organisation.”

“We would like to hear from people who have a strong science background and are interested in working with new, emerging technologies and using their industry or commercial experience to take them to the market.”

Isis’ Oxford University Consulting arm is also expanding. A new position is available in the group, which provides access to the University breadth of academic expertise, by identifying and managing consulting agreements with a wide range of public and private organisations.

Steve Lee, Head of Oxford University Consulting, would welcome candidates who are interested in moving from industry or commercial consultancy to work with an entrepreneurial group of researchers.

“We also aim to build strategic relationships with the companies we work for frequently, and there is significant scope for the right person to make their mark in this area.”
